At yesterday's PMQs Bromley Council was specifically mentioned by the Ed Miliband, he claimed that the council was closing 13 of its 16 children's centres. The trouble is, from Miliband's point of view, is that Bromley aren't closing any children's centres.
A more detailed explanation of Bromley's plans from child service provision is here, well worth a read. The problem with Labour attacking well run Conservative boroughs like Bromley is that they tend to be well run.

From that article you linked to it does appear that Ed Miliband got it wrong. Bromley aren't closing 13/16 Sure start centres but 15/17!
"The proposals currently out for consultation will result in five of the phase three centres which are in the least deprived areas of the borough not being built and a further 15 centres not being funded by the Council in future... The two centres which are likely to remain are also those providing day care so that parents can return to work."
I make it either 14 or 15 out 16 'will not be funded by the council' and five new ones will not be built.
"The Centres that will remain are in the most deprived areas of the borough..."
"The two centres which are likely to remain..."
It seems clear that the removal of funding will result in the closure of all but two centres (at least 13). I am at a loss to understand what Ed got wrong.
It is no good complaining that their facts are always wrong when they are actually right. You could also claim that AV will cost the country £250m, as you do on your sidebar. There is nothing in the legislation of plans by the electoral commission for any changes that would amount to this much. Still, better not let the truth get in the way of a good soundbite.
As a Bromley resident I strongly suggest that Ed Milliband take his nose out of the borough's business and stick it back up Gordon Brown's arse where it's been for the last few years. Fancy a political bankrupt giving advice to a thriving Council.
Labour and the Liberals have been banished to the political wilderness for years in Bromley because we recognise a fantastically well run Council when we see one. If the Conservatives weren't making decisions that we the electorate are happy with, they wouldn't keep on being re-elected with an increased majority.
Red Ed can do one. Utter Prat.
Adam and Jimmy,
I think the statement that "No Bromley Children’s Centres are closing in the coming year" is what makes Miliband's statement factually wrong.
An independent assessment is provide by Channel 4 factcheck.
Whilst none will close in the next financial year, there is a consultation on closing all but three. So while Ed may be mistaken it does not mean these services are not under serious threat in Bromley. Perhaps you would like to publicly oppose the consultation option that results in the closure of 13 children's centres?
And FactCheck provides analysis of the £250m claim and finds it to be fiction. So why are you putting spurious statistics on your blog?
