Your canvassing anecdotes please

I need your help, I have a plan for a fun little project and as part of it I want to collate a decent sized collection of canvassing/campaigning based anecdotes.

So if you have had someone come to the door naked, with a gun, with a python etc. please let me know. I want to hear about your mistakes, their misunderstandings or funny mishaps. Have you been locked in a stair-well, trapped by a dog or snared by a barbed wire fence?

The anecdotes can be anything from a few line long to a few hundred words. Please send them to me at the email below:

hello.mr.friedland(at)googlemail.com

My intention is to use these anecdotes publicly so if there is a need for anonymity please let me know when you send them in, I promise to be discreet.

Thanks in advance.

Hi James

Andrew Kennedy here - Tracey Crouch's Campaign Manager from Chatham. After 30 years I have enough anecdotes for a book of my own - but I will send you a few of the best on Monday when I can dictate them to my Secretary who types 10x faster than I do.

Great idea for a book.

Love the Mr Friedland e-ddress!

Is this linked to the piece in today's Times Tory Conference Diary?

"We don’t like your sort here
A reminder that much of the country is yet to be won over by the Tories. One council candidate in Hackney, a Labour stronghold in East London, told us of a recent canvassing trip: “I knocked on one front door and as soon as I said, ‘Hello, I’m your Conservative Party candidate’, he punched me in the face.”

I suspect canvassing in Bromley may be slightly less dangerous for you?!

James,

In 1979 I went canvassing for Labour with Phil Bloomberg and Boz Boorer of the rockabilly band "The Polecats" who had a couple of chart hits in the early '80's. We knocked on one door and asked if they were going to vote Labour. The bloke replied "No mate, we're National Front". At this Phil Bloomberg punched him in the face.

After that, we weren't asked again

Thought you may enjoy that as you just twittered about the Smiths and Boz has played with Morrissey for the last 10 years
