I'm now back from party conference and I'm catching up on the political news that I've missed. This may sound funny but conference is about the worst place to be if you want to keep up to date with what is going on in the world. One of the first stories to hit me is that Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Oh come on! The man won a historic election in the USA, fair enough, and he has started out on a pretty radical plan of action, fair enough. But what he has not done, in any demonstrable way, is actually achieve any significant improvement in world peace.
That may come, but it is not here yet. The man may be in office for eight years, if they're chucking Nobel Prizes at him less than a year in what will thy do if he actually delivers, canonize him?

A lot of people are saying "I can't believe they gave Obama the Peace Prize", to which I'd say "I can't believe Fox News gave America George W Bush". At least some good is coming as a result of the former. And if it annoys a few racist Republicans, then that's the icing on the cake.
But I only just realised that it's an ADVANCE Nobel. If Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Sarag Palin choke and die on their breakfast cereal when they hear about this, the world will be a better place!
"I hope that this isn't a political gimmick."
So will you be standing in Beckenham?
And will you be serving under Afghan War Lord General Dannatt in the Ministry of Nobel Peace?
James, a lot of folks here in America are shaking our heads too! He is not deserving of this honor and deserving to be included with the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., having been in office not even nine months.
I happen to be from President Obama's hometown of Chicago. Some folks here are wondering: when is he going to bring peace to Chicago's South Side, his home base (this is not my particular position, as I don't think that's the role of the U.S. president but local government, but the question is getting asked here in Chicago)? When will Obama personally speak on the violence raging here (there was recently a death of a high school honor student which got a lot of media coverage here in USA)?
Apparently, Digitaltoast believes that only Republicans can be racist. Never mind that the belief of most Democrats - that we black folks can't succeed without government holding our hand at every turn and without white beneficence - is also racist. And Digitaltoast's last sentence, which wishes death on those who disagree with Digitaltoast, is most hypocritical...and contradictory to the claimed aims of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Shay; you're either accidentally or deliberately wrong on every point.
Apparently, Digitaltoast believes that only Republicans can be racist. I said nothing of the sort. That is a total fabrication.
And Digitaltoast's last sentence, which wishes death on those who disagree with DigitaltoastI also said nothing of the sort there, either. First of all, I have never met or debated with Palin, Limbaugh or Coulter, and I doubt very much whether they've read my blog, so I have no idea more than you whether they disagree with me. I also never wished death on them, either.
Would you care to retract or explain your accusations?
