John Horam to retire

I was at the executive meeting of the Orpington Conservative Association on Friday of last week when John Horam dropped a bit of a bombshell. He has decided not to stand again at the next General Election.

I decided not to blog about it until John made his intentions public (aren't I disciplined). John has been hugely supportive to me for a number of years and he will be a loss to the House. I wish him all the best for the future.

I suppose they'll need a new candidate now. Any takers among the local party? Perhaps among the London Assembly? ;)

A sad loss to politics, both on a local and national level.

John Horam is not your typical MP, blindly towing the party line. He is a free thinker, as is evidenced by the fact that he's represented Labour, the Conservatives and the other party (whatever they're called) at one time or another throughout his career.

Orpington will be a poorer constituency without Mr Horam.

Take up the gauntlet, James!
