I like Bob and have always felt that he was an effective police officer. But allowing a secret document to be photoed and nearly compromising an investigation was deeply embarrassing and I can completely understand why Bob felt that he had to stand down.
Bob made a serious mistake and took responsibility for his actions. You don't see that very often these days, do you?
I'm sorry to see Bob go but I am comforted greatly by John Yates being appointed as the head of Counter Terrorism Command. I might organise a whip-round for him and buy a briefcase for him as a congratulations present.

What a bunch of pious hypocrites!
Treasonous politicians and the media regularly collude to leak information – both legally and illegally. I trust that our politicians will now follow Bob Quick’s lead and resign immediately questions are asked about their suitability to do the job. Somehow I think these greedy, self-serving slimeballs won’t.
I’m sure the fight against terrorism has been strengthened by this Conservative-led action. Bob quick has more honour and integrity than the entire Conservative Party.
When Boris leaked details of a police enquiry (in parliament) to the Conservative Party nobody in the Conservative party called for his resignation. But of course that was deliberate.
Bob Quick's leak was an honest mistake. An apology should have sufficed. But this was not about the reality of the situation, it was about the hounding from office of Bob Quick by the Conservative Party after he criticised them for leaking information (and we will probably never know the truth behind that).
Yates has proved that he will not stand up to politicians and failed to prove the sale of peerages. I am only more suspicious when politicians state they have confidence or are 'comforted' by his appointment. We now have a 'yes-man' in charge of counter-terrorism, and every day we move closer to an Orwellian society.
Boris didn't leak anything.
Quick was investigating an MP for supposedly endangering national security, oh the irony!
My only hope is that his being allowed to resign rather than being sacked does not result in us (tax payers) paying more than we should have done. What he did was gross misconduct, and he should forfeit any benefits he thought he had coming to him.
The politicisation of the police continues. A top policeman forced from his post by the baying Conservatives, simply because he dared to investigate one of their own.
The Conservatives are in great danger of losing the vote of people like me who now see them employing exactly the same tactics that we find so reprihensible in this Labour government.
A very black day for the Conservative party.
Apparently he has escaped with his pension intact (according to Guido Fawkes). Despite the fact that this was a breach of the official secrets act.
He should be fire, and be stripped of his pension & all other benefits. He f*cked up, there are consequences!
The fact is that the photographer concerned broke the law - the photograph showed Bob Quick carrying top secret counter-terrorism documents and according to the Counter Terrorism Act 2008 it is against the law to publish information about the intelligence services that is "likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".
You lie down with dogs, eventually you'll get fleas. I'd pay a precautionary visit to the chemist if I was a member of the Conservative Party.
Enough said.
