The defeat of Gordon Brown's government today means much more than just justice for our retired Gurkha soldiers. It is a signal that his authority and ability to bully Labour MPs has been lost.
You can probably guess my position on the settlement of retired Gurkhas, I'm also a big fan of Joanna Lumley, so I'm doubly pleased.

You must be joking if you think the PM will no longer bully Labour MPs. A defeat will only increase the bullying and threats made against Labour MPs.
James,
Don't get sucked into thinking that the Gurkhas are hard done by. They havew never been employed by MG Govt on the assumption that they are equal to other British troops. They get paid way more than the average Nepali, and their pensions make them well off when they go back. The "offer" has always been, come & fight, and go back after. Someone is starting to change the rules, and it will benefit no one. The Govt will simply switch off the Gurkhas, and then they will all suffer.
Ayo Gurkhali!
