I was meant to be on the train to Liverpool to see how the city is dealing with young people's problem drinking, but the snow has stopped that from happening.
So I will be reading the Children's Society's report into childhood in Britain. I'll give you my thoughts a little later.

James I haven't read the report yet myself. but I hope it says that 90+% of Great Britain's young people are thoroughly decent, pleasant, creative, law-abiding people. I hope it also says that most parents take their responsibilities seriously. I hope it rightly condemns the minority of parents who don't and I hope it condemns this Government for creating an environment where some parents believe that the state should bring up their kids. There is more to be done in tackling 'Broken Britain' but I would love to know if you think this report is yet another weighty and expensive tome that will just sit on the shelf and gather dust...
Why is this nation so poor at dealing with snow?
Like Colin Bloom, I haven't read the report. Unlike Colin Bloom, I'm not going to start spouting rubbish & prejudging it until I have.
It will only be "another weighty and expensive tome that will just sit on the shelf and gather dust" if people such as James do nothing.
I sincerely hope James takes this opportunity to make sure that won't happen.
James,
I echo Colin Bloom's hopes. He's spot on with his observations.
Is Excalibur Colin Bloom? He always supports him in the News Shopper!
Anonymous don't be daft - when I blog I always do so in my own name. Who are you anyway?
If you care to check some of Excalibur's comments you will see that he/she (I think it is a he) has been critical of me and Conservative's in the past.
Colin,
I think Anonymous has a point, I suspect he's on to something. I notice your response stops short of an outright denial
Are you saying you are never self critical. That is appalling. Have you never made a mistake in your entire life? Would you say that the Conservatives have never ever made a mistake either?
I think it's time for some introspection :^}
Nice one Rog T. Take it as an outright denial.
But I guess you will now twist that into me being 'in denial'.
Tell you what - throw the whole 'Idiots guide to abnormal psychosis' at me - I am sure some of it will stick!
Colin,
I'd love to throw the 'Idiots guide to abnormal psychosis' but I'm sure you'd dodge that just as skillfully as you've dodged the question !
Have you seen "Dead Poets Society"? Your statement reminds me of the classic "I'm gay and so is my wife" quote.
I don't suppose Excaliber is your wife is he/she?
:^}
Talking of films, I don't suppose Excaliber is Max Bealistock is he? You'd make a great partnership.
I echo Rog T and Colin Bloom's comments. Does this mean that we are all are the same person?
I'm not really too bothered about what the Children's Society (which is really just another branch of the Church of England) thinks about childhood. I expect they will still with the conservative (small 'c') position that they always stick to about how childhood was so much better 20, 200 or 2000 years ago. Why don't they just grow up!
Oh dear Rog T, you really do need to get out a little bit more!
Excaliber,
Believe me I should stay in a bit more !
