French booze called Suze

As you may know ( if you read down the page a bit) I have been away for a couple of weeks in France on holiday with the family. While driving around I saw a number of large adverts for a drink called Suze, when I saw a bottle in the hypermarket I decided to buy it. After my wife is called Susie.

We opened it this evening and tried it. Not being "au fait" with the correct method of consumption I put a splash of lemonade in with it. A very interesting flavour! It has a distinct bitter aftertaste, not unpleasant but bitter and lots of other herb flavours too.

It is clearly an acquired taste. Still we do have a big bottle.

I love Suze - it is made from the roots of a plant and rather bitter - very like Campari in taste if you are familiar with that. In France they served it with ice and one and a half times its volume in sparkling water. If you like bitter flavours it's a great drink long drink to take in hot weather before the evening meal. In one bar we went to in the Massif Central they had FOUR varieties - this is the one I had:
